Student Support Service

At Saigon Star International School, we treat every student as an individual and each student has specific needs. This is true inside and outside the classroom and the support that we offer very much reflects this. Inside the classroom, working alongside the teachers, are the Learning & Teaching Assistants (LTAs) who support every aspect of a child’s learning through modelling and mentoring during the school day. Other support structure within the school include:

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator

Our SEN coordinator is Mr. Dan Rodgers. He works with students who have some barriers to their learning in the classroom. These barriers may be emotional as well as cognitive. Students who are having difficulties accessing the learning and following the subject material may see Mr. Dan for scheduled pull-out sessions during the week. Activities during these sessions may involve scaffolded academic work, reflection or counselling.

Involvement with Mr. Dan is organised very much with the collaboration of parents and teachers in order that each student can achieve agreed upon goals with all stakeholders following an agreed upon strategy and set up guiding principles.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At Saigon Star International School, we have a dedicated EAL teacher who supports students whose English level is below the expected level for their age group. Mr. Liam conducts small group classes which focus on helping students gain the necessary English language skills to function fully in their homeroom classes.

Typically students will take EAL classes twice a week in groups of 8 to 12, however for students who need a more intensive level of support, extra pull-out sessions in smaller groups are arranged in order to help them reach the standard required to succeed within the framework of our IPC and British National Curriculum.
